A new landmark building designed by Allison Pike has been constructed at Worcester County Cricket Club ground on New Road in the city.
The development comprises a new 120 bedroom hotel with pitch facing restaurant and a new entrance to the cricket pitches and extended Club facilities including bar and functions spaces.Site flooding is taken into account in the design of the new group of buildings and a steel framed podium keeps the floor levels higher than the 1 in 150 year flood level, while creating an undercroft that houses pitch access and turnstiles as well as the service delivery for the hotel.
The plan form dictated that the New Road elevation would be the key frontage and this elevation coupled with the corner approach from the river bridge have the main focus of the design and varied feature cladding materials. An external space leads from the river with a large ramped access named Worcester Way, incorporating landscaping and seating.
Premier Inn formed the anchor for the development and their timber framed bedroom wing extends over four floors above the Thyme restaurant which has great views for cricket afficianados.WCCC have two new functions suites as well as a new bar and offices within their new building.
