October saw the opening of the Allison Pike designed PremierInn hotel in Swindon Town Centre. The 195-bedroom hotel contains the very latest in guest bedroom design and a sleek new restaurant fit-out.
The hotel is the first opening in the Whitbread portfolio to be operating on 100% renewable energy and the latest example of its move to becoming a net zero business by 2050.
Externally, the local Swindon brickwork architecture has been re-imagined in an unashamedly modern style. Brick cladding and substantial glazing constructed over a lightweight metal frame structure provides an energy-efficient and air-tight envelope. The modern form of the building sits comfortably in the Swindon townscape, fronting the main high street and re-landscaping Temple Street to the south, creating a positive addition to Swindon’s urban core – which is itself going through many changes.
