The 23 additional bedrooms provided at the Burton upon Trent Central Premier Inn were handed over a week ahead of programme this month.
Adding to the existing 64 rooms, this extension creates an 87 bedroom hotel and the project included a reception upgrade to bring the scheme up to date. Planning permission was granted by East Staffordshire BC on 25th January this year and work started on site on 8th May.
Originally projected to complete on 19th October, Practical Completion was achieved a week earlier than scheduled. The site lies within a flood risk area and the floor levels were determined in the planning consent, with flood resilience measures taken into account in the construction. Immediately adjacent to the Merry Monk Beefeater Restaurant the location offers food and drink as well as comfortable bedroom accommodation.
The Trent and Mersey canal passes close to this site, adjacent to the A38, and it lies within a short distance of the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. The 23 week build was carried out by Triton Construction, Project Management services were provided by Monaghans and town planning consultancy provided by Walsingham Planning.
