Butlins new development of 21st Century chalets at Minehead recently completed and opened to guests.
The West Lakes Village is a project that Allison Pike have designed, evolving the scheme since their appointment in 2012, delivering a total of 117 chalets with a mix of 4, 6 and 8 bed spaces located around 2 new lakes carved out of the site. Each chalet has an external space or balcony and overlooks landscaped park or the lakes, with the premium units having a direct lake fronting terrace.
The chalets are a deliberate attempt “to bring to us back to what a traditional seaside holiday was all about”, as outlined by Butlins MD Dermot King, creating space and opportunity for families to do things together.Constructed from timber frame set on concrete raft foundations the chalets are clad in maintenance free weatherboard in a variety of seaside pastel shades. A sharp crisp contemporary style outside is reinforced with the white eaves and gable perimeter detail and high quality factory finished timber windows add to the thermal efficiency.
Heated via air source heat pumps, this new holiday accommodation has been designed to exceed current Building Regulation standards and provide a sustainable 21st century design solution. Allison Pike were novated to principal contractor McGoff and Byrne during the construction phase of this successful milestone project constructed in 55 weeks.
