Our most recent Premier Inn opened to the public on 9th December this year in Chipping Norton, West Oxfordshire.
The new development was carried out in the town centre on a site purchased from Oxfordshire County Council which had been derelict for many years. Formerly an ambulance station and Castle View Care Home this scheme has brought the site back to life.
Timber frame construction was used for this 4 storey building, offering speed of construction and a sustainable well engineered solution. The hotel comprises 72 bedrooms over the three upper floors, located above the ground floor Reception and Thyme restaurant. A key feature of the design is the sloping site – the building has been designed in two similarly proportioned blocks at right angles to each other that step down to make the most of the topography.
Located within the Chipping Norton Conservation Area and reflecting the scale and character of the local vernacular, the design utilises double pitched, natural slate roofs. Locally sourced ashlar Cotswold stone feature gables are complemented by buff facing brickwork panels. Hotel guests will benefit from views over the surrounding countryside towards the site of Chipping Norton Castle, a scheduled Ancient Monument. Cardiff based principal contractor Carter Lauren completed the build 4 weeks ahead of schedule.
