Nineteen new bedrooms have been added to the Best Western Plus Pinewood on Wilmslow Hotel at rooftop level overlooking the hotel’s mature tree filled gardens.
This Allison Pike design evolved from the client’s desire to increase the overall bedroom capacity from 70 to around 90 rooms with a preferred location above the existing 1970’s bedroom wing. A wide span steel deck was introduced above the existing roof level and a lightweight metal frame structure constructed for the new rooms. The lift shaft was extended and a new lift installed to serve both existing and new accommodation. Ten of the new rooms are ‘garden view’ with eight other standard rooms and an accessible bedroom.
A taupe linear fibre cement cladding expresses the new extension at third floor while the first and second floors were overclad with thermal insulation and flexible render to improve both the appearance and energy rating of the building. Principal Contractor McGoff and Byrne undertook the construction work in an overall contract period of 26 weeks which included both the shell extension and the Allison Pike designed interior fit out. Fresh contemporary colours and patterns feature in the bedroom design together with bespoke design case goods.
