Major Llandudno Project Starts Again
After a pause while consent was obtained for the complete taking down and rebuilding of the former Tudno Castle Hotel at Llandudno, works have started again in earnest to recreate this historic frontage in the town centre. Years of decay had caused the original rubble filled walls of the building to have deteriorated beyond repair and the overall structure had become dangerous, rendering the proposed façade retention scheme unviable.
The new structure will be more robust than the previous one, with a steel frame and masonry infill, faced with stucco render and complete with accurate replica detailing of architectural features. Extensive and meticulous survey work has been carried out to ensure the reconstructed façade facing Conway Road will be a faithful replica of the original hotel.
Main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland is carrying out the project for Opus North and Mostyn Estates under a Design and Build contract with Allison Pike acting as architects and designers. The scheme will create a 63-bedroom Premier Inn hotel, with a lower ground floor reception and Beefeater restaurant together with 4 other separate commercial units at upper ground and a first floor gym.
